Work Detail Norwegian state-owned energy company Equinor has awarded compatriot Ocean Installer with an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract to deliver a subsea scope for its huge oil and natural gas field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. Equinor and its partners have selected Ocean Installer as the SURF contractor for their new NOK 12 billion (over $1 billion) investment in the Troll Phase 3 – Stage 2 Project. The EPCI contract, worth over NOK 1 billion, covers the fabrication and installation of four large pipeline termination structures for the 36” gas flowline, five 20” spools, subsea pig launcher and receiver (PLR), 6 kilometers of 4.5” MEG Line and protection covers. The work also covers the installation of the subsea production system and umbilicals from OneSubsea, as well as trenching and pre-commissioning. Fabrication and offshore work are expected to take over three years, with the first campaign beginning in 2025. Ocean Installer has also secured a separate contract to replace a 4-kilometer 10” flexible flowline at the Troll B field in 2025. Stage 2 of the Troll Phase 3 project includes eight new wells from two new templates with subsea controls extended from existing templates. A new 36” gas flowline will be laid as a tie-back to the Troll A platform, and the project will also perform modification work on Troll A. Engineering work has already started from Ocean Installer’s offices in Stavanger and Oslo. The majority of the fabrication will be awarded to Norwegian subcontractors. “The Troll Phase 3 – Stage 2 project is a perfect match with our capabilities, and we are excited to deliver this project in close collaboration with Equinor and our locally based fabrication partners. This award shows that our clients continue to rely on us for large, complex and production critical projects. Moreover, the Troll B Flowline Replacement award demonstrates the range of projects we can help our clients with – from big EPCIs to smaller T&I projects,” said Ocean Installer CEO Kevin Murphy. Allseas was recently tasked to perform the installation of pipeline and integrated structures at the huge oil and natural gas field. Execution is planned with Pioneering Spirit in 2026.Ocean Installer had multiple wins with Equinor in 2023, including projects on Vigdis, Visund, Åsgard C, and Northern Lights. This was followed by a subsea line modification (SLM) project award earlier this year for Åsgard A.
