PT PLN (Persero) inaugurated the Tanamalala Solar Power Plant (PLTS) on Bembe Island, Selayar Regency, South Sulawesi Province. With a capacity of 176-kilowatt peak (kWp), this initiative marks a significant milestone in providing sustainable electricity to the community while reducing carbon emissions by 715 tons annually.
The presence of the PLTS is set to revolutionize daily life on Bembe Island, enhancing economic activities and raising living standards. Previously reliant on a Diesel Power Plant (PLTD), residents now benefit from 24-hour electricity, significantly reducing costs and improving accessibility.
Expressing gratitude, Regent H. Muh. Basli Ali emphasized the transformative impact of PLN’s initiative, remarking, “This electricity is a blessing we never dreamed of. Thanks to PLN, we now enjoy reliable power that supports our aspirations and livelihoods.”
Head of Tanjulasore Hamlet, Mustaju, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the practical benefits, “With PLN electricity, our monthly expenses have reduced from IDR 100 thousand to just IDR 30 thousand, ensuring continuous power supply crucial for our daily needs.”
President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, underscored the plant’s significance in advancing environmental goals, stating, “Tanamalala PLTS represents our commitment to sustainable energy and supports the Government’s vision of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060.” This initiative aligns with PLN’s mission to foster green energy solutions that enhance community welfare.
General Manager of PLN Main Distribution Unit South Sulawesi, Moch. Andy Adchaminoerdin highlighted the logistical challenges overcome to bring electricity to Bembe Island: “Despite the two-day sea journey to mobilize materials, PLN remains dedicated to delivering happiness to islanders.” Currently, 126 customers have been connected, with plans to expand services further.
The Tanamalala PLTS has elevated the share of New Renewable Energy (EBT) in the Southern Sulawesi Electricity System (Sulbagsel) to 45.78%, marking a significant stride towards sustainable energy development in Indonesia.
This project not only exemplifies PLN’s commitment to green energy but also promises lasting benefits for the community of Bembe Island, paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable future. |
