Work Detail The local government of QC is actively implementing the QC Solarization Program to decrease reliance on non-renewable energy sources across all city-owned facilities like buildings, hospitals, and schools. This initiative aims to advance environmental goals for energy conservation and climate action among residents. QC Mayor Joy Belmonte highlighted, “In QC, our main emphasis is on reducing energy demand through effective building solutions and transitioning to renewable energy sources for all city-owned infrastructures.” Currently, approximately 600 photovoltaic solar panels have been installed in key city hall buildings. The main 15-floor building houses 180 panels, the legislative building 108, and the treasury building features around 290 panels. According to City Engineer Dale Perral, these installations are expected to save up to P1.5 million in electrical expenses and reduce the city’s carbon footprint by 125 tons. The city plans to install over 1,000 additional solar panels this year in city-owned hospitals and schools, including Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital, Novaliches District Hospital, and Quezon City General Hospital. The schools slated for solar installation this year comprise Culiat Elementary School, Judge Feliciano Belmonte Senior High School, Culiat High School, New Era High School, and Tandang Sora Elementary School. Perral guaranteed, “All infrastructure projects led by Mayor Belmonte’s administration adhere strictly to the highest engineering standards and are characterized by top-quality execution.” To streamline the adoption of solar energy among residents, the QC government and Meralco are partnering to set up a centralized service center at City Hall. This initiative aims to simplify the process for solar energy as well as net-metering applications. Furthermore, the local government urges private sector participation in supporting QC’s Green Building Ordinance to contribute to building a sustainable and eco-friendly city.
