Work Detail | According to the latest market study released by Technavio, the global transit packaging market is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 4% during the forecast period. This research report titled ‘Global Transit Packaging Market 2016-2020’ provides an in-depth analysis of the market in terms of revenue and emerging market trends. To calculate the market size, the revenue generated by vendors is taken into account. The report also presents the vendor landscape and a corresponding detailed analysis of the top five vendors operating in the market. Transit packaging management is complicated because of increased trade activities and high demand from diverse industries such as food and beverages, consumer care, electrical and electronics, and many more. In addition, it includes container distribution, fleet sizing, repositioning of empty containers, tracking containers, and maintenance activities. These issues can be solved using fleet management techniques, in turn improving operational efficiency, minimizing risk, and controlling cost. Technavio’s sample reports are free of charge and contain multiple sections of the report including market size and forecast, drivers, challenges, trends, and more. Technavio’s transportation and logistics analysts categorize the global transit packaging market into four major segments by products. They are: Corrugated boxes Pallets Crates Others Global transit packaging market by pallets The transit packaging market by pallets is expected to grow at a steady pace during the forecast period, growing at a CAGR of around 6%. The high growth of this segment can be attributed to the high demand of pallets from different industries such as retail and consumer goods. As pallets offered by different vendors are becoming increasingly indistinguishable, service delivery and customer satisfaction have become the key performance indicators. The commoditization of products has led to pricing pressures. Though metal and plastic products have not been able to dent the strong position held by wooden pallets, the need for radio-frequency identification (RFID) and hygienic pallets has compelled vendors to explore value-added services such as regular fumigation and repair. According to Sharan Raj, a lead packaging research analyst from Technavio, “Wooden pallets can be recycled for the production of energy once their shelf lives are over. As pallets are heat-treated and kiln-dried, they contain less moisture and are most suitable for landscape mulch, poultry litter, and as wood fuel. The secondary commercial opportunities of discarded pallets are being explored by manufacturers to decrease the amount of waste going into landfills.” Global transit packaging market by crates The transit packaging market by crates is expected to be the second largest segment in the market by 2020 with a CAGR of over 5%. Packaging crates are used for fresh produce products like fruits and vegetables during harvest, post-harvest handling, transportation, and storage. They are available in two types of materials: wood and plastic. Wooden crates are the most prominent ones in the market and account for around 80% of the total crates packaging market. The self-supporting structure of the crates is ideal for shipping heavy goods. The major advantage of wooden crates is that they have good ventilation and can be manufactured locally. “Plastic crates are made of high-density polyethylene or polypropylene. The use of high density polyethylene is more as it offers ultra-violet protection and provides greater strength against impact. Plastic crates can be categorized as nesting, stacking, stacking and nesting, and collapsible containers,” says Sharan. Global transit packaging market by others The market for other packaging products is expected to witness significant growth during the forecast period, posting a CAGR of around 5% due to factors like advanced manufacturing processes, technological innovations, and increased integration. The market is strongly supported by the growing packaging industry and the changing consumer perceptions about protective packaging. Foam protective packaging products account for a major share in the market. Foam protective packaging products include molded foam, foam-in-place, polyolefin rolled foam and loose fill and other foam packaging products. Foam-in-place and polyolefin rolled foam are gaining popularity in the market followed by molded foam products. Rigid protective packaging products include insulated shipper containers, paperboard protectors, and molded pulp. The demand for rigid packaging products primarily comes from the manufacturing and warehousing sector for the transportation of durable goods. Flexible protective packaging includes air pillows, protective mailers, bubble wrap, paper fills, and dunnage bags. Flexible protective packaging products are in high demand because of its increasing popularity in the e-commerce industry, which primarily used protective mailers, air pillows and bubble packaging for safe delivery of the products to their customers.
