The Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) is taking a significant leap towards a more sustainable energy future with the launch of its inaugural Large-Scale Solar (LSS) Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant bidding process, named LSS-SABAH2024. This initiative aims to bolster energy generation through renewable solutions, ensuring a sustainable energy supply for Sabah.
LSS-SABAH2024 aims to facilitate the development of large-scale solar PV power plants with a collective capacity of 100MWac through open bidding overseen by ECoS. Projects will vary from 1MWac to 15MWac, encompassing ground-mounted, floating, or rooftop designs, thereby offering opportunities for companies of diverse sizes and resources to participate.
Datuk Ir. Abdul Nasser Bin Abdul Wahid, CEO of ECoS, emphasized, “ECoS invites experienced companies or consortia with a proven track record in implementing power generation projects, including project financing and power plant operation, to submit bids.” He further noted the priority given to qualified Sabah-owned entities registered with CIDB or PUKONSA, provided they or their partners meet relevant requirements.
Furthermore, to uphold safety and quality standards, potential bidders must engage Electrical Contractors with Class PV (Grid-Connected) registered with ECoS.
“The LSS-SABAH2024 bidding process represents a significant stride for Sabah in its commitment to harnessing clean, renewable energy sources, as outlined in the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (SE-RAMP 2040) launched last September,” remarked Abdul Nasser Bin Abdul Wahid. He highlighted the initiative’s alignment with SE-RAMP 2040, affirming its role in ensuring a sustainable energy future for the state and ensuring a reliable power supply for future generations.
