Procurement News Notice

PNN 69287
Work Detail ISIE consortium was awarded a EUR 26.5 million contract to provide engineering design services for Brenner Base Tunnel railway equipment. The consortium comprises ISIE – Italferr (head company), SWS engineering SpA – ILF Consulting Engineers Austria GmbH. The engineering services include the updating of the final design of the Brenner Base Tunnel railway systems and supporting BBT SE during the subsequent procurement phases. The award decision was the subject of an appeal to the Administrative Court of Bolzano. Based on the analysis carried out by the tender commission, the most economically and technically advantageous tender for engineering design services for railway equipment had been submitted by the ISIE consortium. The results of the tender commission’s work were confirmed by the Administrative Court of Bolzano which ruled in favour of Galleria di Base del Brennero (BBT SE) on the appeal which had been filed by another bidder. The contract has now been signed between BBT SE and ‘ISIE’. After the completion of the main tunnels and their inner linings, railway outfitting will be the final phase of the Brenner Base Tunnel project before the infrastructure becomes operational. The Brenner Base Tunnel is a straight, flat railway tunnel connecting Austria and Italy. The BBT runs for 64 km between Tulfes/Innsbruck and Fortezza, making it the longest underground railway stretch in the word. The BBT ends in Innsbruck in the existing railway bypass tunnel, which ends in Tulfes. A new rescue tunnel is being built running parallel to the bypass. The two-tube tunnel system between Innsbruck and Fortezza is 55 km long. The BBT tunnel system includes about 230 km of tunnels, of which 169 km have already been excavated including the 70 km railway tunnel, the 56 km exploratory tunnel and other tunnels totalling 43 km. The Brenner Base Tunnel is the infrastructure project with the highest funding ever granted in Europe with over EUR 2.3 billion being granted to date, of which EUR 700 million CEF co-financing was awarded in June 2023
