Work Detail U.S. energy technology player Baker Hughes has been hired on a long-term workover and plug and abandonment (P&A) services assignment by Petrobras, a Brazilian state-owned energy heavyweight. The deal will enable the U.S. firm to work on the pre-salt and post-salt fields off the coast of Brazil. While Baker Hughes did not disclose the duration and value of the integrated solutions contract, the U.S. giant did explain that the multi-year deal represents “a significant order” for workover and P&A services at Petrobras’ pre-salt and post-salt fields offshore Brazil. The work on the project is expected to begin in the first half of 2025. The energy technology company’s integrated solutions approach will be employed to manage the project by deploying wireline, coiled tubing, cementing, tubular running, wellbore intervention, fishing, and geosciences services across the Brazilian giant’s entire offshore field portfolio to optimize performance. In addition, the agreement entails Baker Hughes’ remedial tools, completion fluids, and production chemicals. The U.S. player will also expand its Macaé facilities in Rio de Janeiro to encompass coiled tubing and tubular running services to support the project and help advance Latin America’s energy landscape while contributing to the further growth of the Brazilian industry and its workforce. Maria Claudia Borras, Executive Vice President, Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes, commented: “Baker Hughes brings to this important project a comprehensive technology portfolio, a deep understanding of localization, and a rich history of working in Brazil. “Flawlessly integrating these capabilities will be essential to the success of the project. Our expertise in integrated solutions is the foundation for efficiently taking energy forward in Brazil.” The latest deal with Petrobras comes months after the U.S. firm won a contract with the Brazilian giant for integrated well construction services at a large deepwater field in Brazil’s pre-salt Santos Basin. Recently, Baker Hughes also secured an assignment to supply Black & Veatch with electric-driven liquefaction technology and entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with CGG to pursue carbon capture and storage (CCS) solutions.
