TotalEnergies has successfully installed a 2.1 megawatt-peak (MWp) ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system in collaboration with Hiep Phat International Agricultural Co. Ltd (Hiep Phat), a leading starch manufacturer in Vietnam. This milestone marks the first agricultural PV project in the Asia Pacific region for TotalEnergies. The system is set to supply approximately 20% of the energy needs for Hiep Phat’s plant and office facilities with renewable energy.
Featuring over 3,600 panels, the PV system generates about 3,250 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually, resulting in significant cost savings for Hiep Phat and a reduction in the company’s carbon footprint by approximately 2,200 tons of CO2 emissions per year. This reduction is equivalent to removing around 440 cars from the road or planting over 33,000 trees. Additionally, Hiep Phat plans to cultivate plants, including herbs for organic chicken farming, beneath the panels to further develop its agricultural operations.
Under the agreement, TotalEnergies fully funded and installed the PV system and will manage its operation, while Hiep Phat will purchase the electricity generated over a 20-year period, eliminating upfront costs. This initiative not only leverages solar energy for agricultural purposes but also enhances Hiep Phat’s clean energy production, aligning with their core activities.
