Work Detail Juan José Pedreño, the Minister of Health of the Government of Murcia, recently visited the Vega Lorenzo Girao de Cieza hospital to inspect the progress of a new solar installation. The project represents an investment of nearly 280,000 euros and aims to enhance the hospital’s energy efficiency. The solar panels will cover an area of 1,206 m², providing a power capacity of 255 kW. This installation is expected to produce over 330,000 kWh annually, accounting for approximately 11% of the hospital’s yearly electrical energy consumption. Pedreño highlighted that the hospital will save an estimated 50,600 euros in electricity costs each year due to this new installation. The photovoltaic system will consist of 468 monocrystalline modules from the Chinese brand Jinko Solar, specifically the 560 W Tiger Pro-72 HC model. These panels, known for their 21.13% efficiency, measure 2,274 mm x 1,134 mm x 35 mm, with each module occupying a surface area of 2.58 m². The installation will also feature three Huawei inverters: two SUN2000-100KTL-M1 models and one SUN2000-40KTL-M3 model, achieving a nominal power of 240 kW. The 100 kW inverters include 10 MPPT trackers, support MBUS, and offer an efficiency of 98.8%. The structural support for the installation will be a coplanar system mounted on a metal roof, utilizing a microrail anchored to the roof and clamps attached to the modules with a 5º inclination and east-west orientation. The materials will be galvanized steel or stainless aluminum. This photovoltaic project is part of the regional Government’s Plan for Energy Efficiency Measures in Hospital Facilities, aimed at improving the environment and enhancing economic and energy efficiency. The plan has a total budget of 52.2 million euros, with 40 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The plan’s execution period spans from 2022 to 2030, with 14 million euros already utilized. In addition to this project, the Minister of Health announced that the Government Council has authorized the installation of photovoltaic solar energy systems in 67 health centers across the Region of Murcia. This initiative, costing 4,684,277 euros, is 60% funded by FEDER Funds under the 2021-2027 Operational Program of the Region of Murcia. The installation is expected to be completed in the first half of next year and will generate 3,855,441.46 kWh annually, resulting in an estimated annual saving of 700,000 euros, which equates to about 33% of the centers’ annual energy consumption. Specifically, Health Area IX will see an investment of over 320,000 euros in Primary Care centers, leading to savings of nearly 30,000 euros per year. This project is part of the broader Primary Care Improvement Strategy, aimed at enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of healthcare facilities in the region.
