In a bid to reduce operational costs, Aviário Zambiari, a prominent poultry farm in Nova Bréscia, has embraced solar energy. Nova Bréscia, known as the poultry capital of Rio Grande do Sul, contributes significantly to the state’s position as the third largest producer and exporter of chicken meat in Brazil. With 7,300 producers and 21 slaughterhouses, Rio Grande do Sul boasts an average production of 1.8 million tons of chicken meat annually.
Three years ago, the poultry farm installed a solar energy system with a capacity of 71.94 kWp, comprising 218 photovoltaic modules and a SolarEdge inverter. This installation, carried out by Yes Energia, a local integrator company, has resulted in significant savings of R$110,000 per year for the producer.
Tiago Fernandes, co-founder of Yes Energia, highlighted the importance of this transition. “Margins in poultry farming are very small, and for rural producers, electricity is an operational and fixed cost. Regardless of the size of the batch that the producer delivers, the energy consumed remains constant. Therefore, solar energy offers an extra gain in productivity,” Fernandes explained.
Fernandes also pointed out the challenges associated with adapting the electrical infrastructure for solar installations in rural areas. “In rural areas, networks usually have low quality with either low or very high tensions, necessitating infrastructure adaptations,” he added.
The adoption of solar energy by Aviário Zambiari underscores a growing trend among agricultural producers seeking sustainable and cost-effective solutions to enhance productivity and reduce operational expenses. |
