Work Detail The City of Brantford broke ground on the Brantford Police Service Redevelopment project. In partnership with Melloul Blamey Construction, the event marked a significant step forward toward ensuring the Brantford Police Service is better equipped to respond to the law enforcement needs of the rapidly growing community. “The redevelopment of the Brantford Police Service station reflects the City’s ongoing efforts to prioritize both public safety and environmental responsibility. Designed with the future in mind, this facility, operating at net-zero carbon emissions, will accommodate the security needs of our growing community, further enhancing the ability of the Brantford Police Service to serve and protect Brantford residents,” said chair of the Brantford Police Services Board, Councillor Greg Martin. The redeveloped Brantford Police Service station will not only accommodate the growth of the Brantford Police Service, but will also be the City of Brantford’s first municipal zero carbon build. With a targeted completion timeline of 30 months, and in alignment with the City’s declaration of a Climate Emergency in 2019, the construction will adhere to a net-zero carbon building design. The proposed features of the three-storey redevelopment include triple-paned windows, a highly-efficient HVAC system to reduce energy consumption, ultralow-flow plumbing fixtures to minimize water usage, LED lighting with photocells for adaptive lighting control, and the installation of solar panels on the roof. Spanning 127,217 square feet, the redevelopment is designed to accommodate the evolving needs of the Branford Police Service and the community for the next 25 to 30 years. “This project reflects how the Branford Police Service is expanding to meet the law enforcement needs of a rapidly growing community, and reinforces our commitment to providing exemplary service to the residents of Brantford. We’re proud that this new facility will be the City’s first carbon zero build, and will not only enhance operational efficiency, but also provide more space for innovation and collaboration, empowering our officers to better safeguard and support our community,” said Interim Police Chief Jason Saunders.
