Work Detail The American company PVFarm has launched a web application for the initial planning of large-scale photovoltaic projects. It includes real-time energy models and building information model (BIM) functions, and appears to support electrical, mechanical, civil, energy and contracting aspects of photovoltaic plants. The American company PVFarm has launched a photovoltaic plant design web application for professionals involved in the early phases of the design cycle of commercial and industrial scale (C&I) projects. This subscription-based tool provides quick insights into the implications of design decisions for layout, equipment, grading, and electrical systems early in the project workflow. “It is a critical phase of the project with a lasting impact. Decisions can last thirty years,” Maksim Markevich, head of technology at PVFarm, explains to pv magazine . “We are currently offering a paid product license following a co-piloted trial in which we worked with potential users to evaluate a real project with PVFarm.” Users can mix equipment and electrical designs, or run different sorting strategies across an entire site or field by field, according to the company. Designs can be edited multiple times. Advanced algorithms help quickly identify the most efficient options. “We have been working on the application for three years. “Our team has eight years of experience developing design automation software for other industries,” says Markevich. Suitable for fixed ground-mounted or single-track axis plants, the application supports financial, energy performance, electrical, civil, mechanical and contracting aspects. It has building information model (BIM) functionality for modeling and provides information about objects to team members for analysis, exploration or comparison. It supports multiple file formats and is compatible with other tools such as Autodesk and PvSyst. “By bringing all of these aspects together in a single platform, PVFarm allows users to evaluate opportunities and trade-offs holistically, ensuring informed decision-making,” says Markevich. “The application has taken three years to create. “Our team has eight years of experience developing design automation software for other industries,” Markevich added.
