Work Detail Spanish renewable energy company Uriel Renovables has received a Favorable Environmental Qualification Resolution (RCA) for Quinquimo Solar, the first of four projects its subsidiary, Uriel Renovables Chile, is developing in the country. The project represents an $85 million investment and will have a total power capacity of 90 MW, with the ability to inject 65 MW into the Chilean National Electric System (SEN). The Quinquimo Solar project will cover an area of 150 hectares and include a 110 kV high voltage line stretching nearly 11 kilometers from the generation area to the Quinquimo substation. The solar panel mounting structures will feature trackers to optimize efficiency and a 200 MWh battery storage system (50 MW x 4 hr) to enable night-time energy injection. Upcoming steps for the Quinquimo Solar project include obtaining sector permits, securing easements for the evacuation line, acquiring administrative permits, and finalizing project financing. Construction is slated to begin in 2025, with the aim of starting energy generation and injection into the SEN by the end of 2026. The project is expected to operate for 35 years. Located 150 kilometers north of Santiago de Chile, in the communes of La Ligua and Papudo within the Petorca Province of the Valparaíso Region, Quinquimo Solar benefits from high solar radiation and proximity to consumption centers, which helps stabilize spot prices compared to other regions. Besides Quinquimo Solar, Uriel Renovables Chile is developing three additional photovoltaic projects in the Valparaíso region: Ritoque Solar (90 MWac), Cabildo Solar (50 MWac), and Casas Viejas Solar (105 MWac). These projects are currently undergoing environmental evaluation and are expected to receive favorable RCAs by the first quarter of 2025. Globally, Uriel Renovables has developed over 600 MW of green energy in its 30-year history and has a portfolio of 1,300 MW spanning various technologies including solar, wind, hydraulic, biogas, and batteries. The company’s operations extend across Europe, the United States, and Latin America. Uriel Renovables is part of the Huarte Family business group.
