India’s Rail Land Development Authority has appointed a joint venture of Mace and Systra to transform the biggest railway station in the state of Gujarat, in Ahmedabad City.
Every day, 160 trains and 120,000 passengers pass through it.
Daily passenger numbers are expected to rise to 300,000 by 2060, Mace said.
the coming three years, Mace and Systra will turn the station into a multi-modal hub for Indian Railways, Metro Rail and High-Speed Rail, while adding commercial and residential space.
In all, the redevelopment covers nearly 40 hectares.
The JV’s project management consultancy services contract makes it responsible for design review, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, project monitoring, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover.
In India since 2011, Mace’s portfolio there includes Mumbai International Airport Terminal 2.
Mace country manager Hemant Sandu said: “With passenger numbers expected to eclipse the already large footfall at the station, this redevelopment programme is much called for.” |
