DP World and Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) have embarked on the construction of a new SAR900 million ($250 million) logistics park at Jeddah Islamic Port. The project aims to enhance trade in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the wider region by providing advanced storage and distribution facilities.
The greenfield facility, spanning 415,000 square meters, will include 185,000 square meters of warehousing space and a sprawling multi-purpose storage yard, making it the largest integrated logistics park in the Kingdom. With a capacity for over 390,000 pallet positions, the park will facilitate the seamless flow of goods to and from Jeddah.
Established in 2022 under a 30-year concession, the Jeddah Logistics Park will be developed in two phases, with an expected opening in Q2 2025. Notably, the facility will feature a rooftop solar plant generating 20MW of renewable energy, aligning with sustainable design principles.
The collaboration between Mawani and DP World also encompasses the management of the South Container Terminal through a separate 30-year concession signed in 2020. Currently undergoing a comprehensive modernization project, the terminal is slated for completion in Q4 2024, with handling capacity ramped up to five million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
Combined, the two DP World projects represent an investment close to 4 billion SAR ($1 billion).
His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, expressed DP World’s enduring commitment to the Kingdom, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Jeddah Logistics Park in facilitating trade along the vital Asia-Europe shipping route.
President of Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), Omar Bin Talal Hariri, highlighted the logistics park’s role in enhancing growth and container handling capabilities at the Jeddah Islamic Port, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
Mohammad Alshaikh, DP World Country Head, KSA, provided comprehensive details on the project during the groundbreaking ceremony, attended by dignitaries including the UAE Consul General to Jeddah and senior Saudi government representatives.
Aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, the Jeddah Logistics Park represents a significant development for DP World, optimizing logistics processes and providing an integrated platform for trade and logistics. The groundbreaking event follows DP World’s expansion of freight forwarding offices in key Saudi cities, further strengthening supply chains in the Kingdom and beyond. |
