This is an emergency work that will address sewage overflows in the La Sirena neighborhood of Neuquén Capital. The work begins this week on public roads, and will end in the first days of August. Pre-molding has already begun in the factory.
The Minister of Infrastructure, Rubén Etcheverry, and the president of the EPAS, Gustavo Hernández, signed the contract with representatives of the company CODAM SA for the execution of the work “Emergency Linkage on Luis Beltrán and El Petróleo streets – Luis Beltrán y Saavedra” , for an amount of almost 300 million pesos and an execution period of 60 calendar days.
The works have been a priority for the provincial government in order to provide a prompt solution to the complaints of the residents of the sector, for which different actions have been carried out within the framework of Emergency Works.
The urgent execution of the work arises from the need to improve the transportation of sewage effluents that are currently conveyed through the existing collector on Saavedra Street, which has a diameter of 600 millimeters and whose capacity is exceeded. With the completion of these tasks, the effluents will also be able to drain through the new collector installed on Luis Beltrán Street, which has a diameter of 1,000 millimeters.
This action will generate a double circulation path for the sanitary liquid, and avoid repeated situations of saturation and obstruction of pipes that cause overflows of effluents composed of a mixture of liquids of rainwater and sewage origin in the manholes.
Regarding the signing of the contract, the Minister of Infrastructure, Rubén Etcheverry said “for us this work is not only a priority, but urgent” and added that “since the restart of work that Governor Figueroa has entrusted to us, all the regulations have already been implemented.” corresponding and this is the first one we want to start.”
“It is a complaint from the neighbors that has been coming for several years, we have understood it and that is why we want to start the work” said the minister and added “the company has already started with some previous tasks and this week they will be working there on these collectors, as a solution for this time until it is the definitive solution.”
“This is another of the problems that non-payment from the Nation has brought us, and in the same case of the routes and other priority works, the province and the Executive Branch have decided not to sit idly by,” assured Etcheverry. .
For his part, Gustavo Hernández, president of the EPAS, said “we are very happy, because we are going to be able to move forward with this work that is bringing us many difficulties in the service, such as public knowledge.” He said that “we are going to join the existing collectors in a section of a work financed by the Nation that was paralyzed, this will give us time to continue and look for the definitive solution.”
For the company that will carry out the works, Gastón Garino, stated that “the work consists of two interventions on two corners, one is the corner of Calle del Petróleo and Luis Beltrán and the other Calle Saavedra and Luis Beltrán” and added “it will be start on Calle del Petróleo, the chambers that are on that corner will be completed and then we will proceed to connect the two collectors, the one that goes down Luis Beltrán or Calle Saavedra with the new one, which is the one behind ”.
“The initial work period is 60 days and we have started with all the preliminary tasks. We are now in a position to start the works themselves,” said the businessman. Marcelo Lazcano, Secretary of Public Companies, was also present at the signing of the contract.
The origin
The origin of this problem is related to the conjunction of two problems that the sewage collector pipes present in the area:
Deficiency in conduction capacity due to the small dimensions of the collectors, not adequate for the number of inhabitants of the population served.
Multiple breakdowns and obstructions that have been generated in the sewer collector on Lanín Street between Saavedra and Ignacio Rivas, due to the exhaustion of the useful life of the 600 millimeter diameter reinforced concrete pipes that make it up.

These emergency works were designed by the EPAS until a set of works planned for the city is resolved, which include a major replacement of sewage pipes throughout the city.
