The Rajasthan government has taken steps to hasten delineation work for the auction of minor and major mine blocks within the state. Mines Secretary Anandi stated, "At the same time, we have decided to take strict steps to recover the penalty amount in cases of illegal mining activities."
In an effort to curb illegal mining, the state aims to prioritize the preparation and auctioning of as many mining blocks as possible, with the department already formulating a monthly roadmap from June onwards. Anandi emphasized that drilling for mineral exploration and analysis of reports would help in curbing illegal mining activities of precious minerals while boosting revenue and employment opportunities in the state.
She further emphasized the need for senior officials to take on a supervisory role to ensure effective monitoring of all activities related to the mineral department. Additionally, the government has instructed officials to develop water harvesting systems in mineral department offices and areas, as well as to enhance the efficiency of the e-file system in departmental offices to improve disposal times.
Rajasthan, known for its rich mineral resources, produces over 57 different minerals, contributing significantly to the states revenue. During the 2023-2024 fiscal year, the mines department earned revenue exceeding Rs 7,490 crores.
In April, the states mines department strategized to increase revenue for the current financial year (FY25). Despite the lack of an official target for FY25 due to the model code of conduct during the Lok Sabha polls, officials are optimistic about a substantial increase in revenue.
Officials from the mines department revealed plans for daily monitoring through a roadmap for exploration, drilling, block and plot preparation for auction, auction calendar creation, and revenue collection. This year, the state government aims to ramp up exploration, drilling, and auction activities on a large scale to promote scientific and legal mining, thereby maximizing revenue from the mining sector. |
