National Roads reported that this Friday the structures will arrive that will allow the start of repair works on the Highway Bridge, closed since Easter for general traffic.
It should be remembered that on Thursday, April 28, the organization issued a statement warning that on Good Friday it would close the passage through the viaduct that connects Santa Fe with Santo Tomé due to the breaks it presents in one section.
Days later, they placed a Bailey bridge over the affected place and rehabilitated traffic only for emergency and light vehicles such as bicycles, motorcycles and pedestrians.
The definitive repair of the Carretero will be with scaffolding hanging from the bridge. Once the Bailey Bridge has been erected and traffic has been restored with restrictions, National Highways begins the sanitation stage of the viaduct. Once the work begins it will take three months. There are four sections to be repaired.

The works begin.
The assembly of stairs and scaffolding supported by the viaduct structure itself will proceed," explains the statement released.
As a result of these tasks, VN explains, the passage of motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians will be reduced on the sidewalk and road on the north side of the Bailey, on the way to Santo Tomé. «These initial actions will not produce restrictions on alternating circulation on the emergency bridge. On the other hand, Santo Tomas traffic agents will order the passage of pedestrians, motorcycles and bicycles in both directions," they indicated.
"With these activities, work on the bridge will begin, while the company will continue next week with the transfer and subsequent assembly of the rest of the scaffolding and stairs that it builds at its headquarters," they added.
In that sense, from National Roads, they maintained that "from these walkways the corbels will be formed that will allow the damaged supports to be repaired and the affected structure to be raised. With similar supplementary beams, preventive intervention will be carried out on the other three supports located between the Ford and the east abutment.
The tasks
As El Litoral explained, the ground in the eastern sector of the head of the Carretero bridge has already been cleared and leveled so that the workshop can be set up there.
The work will be carried out by the company Cicsa, originally from Rosario, and will require approximately three months of execution, according to the planned deadlines. The budget amount 595 thousand dollars.
Repairs will be made to four supports of the Carretero bridge that are damaged. The first will be in the area where the Bailey was installed. What is going to be done is to lift the deck, fix the depressed support, remove the Bailey bridge, fix the joint and thus once again guarantee passability.
The other three points damaged to a lesser extent are located in different sections of the bridge, between the Vado and the Santa Fe headwaters, but closer to Santo Tomé. They are damaged supports detected through the studies carried out by National Roads some time ago. If they are not repaired, they could have some impact in the future. It is a preventive work to prevent what has already happened in the sector where the Bailey should have been installed.
The work in each area will be carried out by installing scaffolding that will be hung from the beams and sides of the bridge. That is to say, they have no support on the river bed or in the swamp. Brackets similar to those that were placed in the 1970s, when another repair was made, will be placed at the damaged points.
