Work Detail | The Sokoto State Government has earmarked N220 million for the demolition and reconstruction of Kofar Taramniya Fire Station in Sokoto. The Commissioner for Home Affairs, Alhaji Isa Achida, said this at a news conference on Monday in Sokoto. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was jointly organised by the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the State Ministry of Information. Achida said that the project was aimed at rejuvenating the fire station. He said that Gov. Aminu Tambuwal approved the establishment of eight new fire stations. According to him, the stations would be located in Mana Karama, Tsohuwar Kasuwa, Sabuwar Kasuwa, Runjin Sambo, More, Bado, Mana Babba and the popular 500 Housing Estates. In the same vein, Achida said, Tambuwal also approved the renovation of the fire stations in Rijiyar Dorowa, Yar-Akija,Shagon goro and Arkilla. “The ministry has also proposed the construction of four water schemes to be located in Bado, Arkilla, Runjin Sambo and More. “They will be equipped with boreholes, 20,000 gallons elevated tank and a generator each. “These water schemes will make it easier to access water during fire fighting operations,’’ Achida said. The commissioner, however, stressed the need for the resuscitation of the fire service departments in the 23 Local Government Areas of the state. Achida said that the ministry was committed to closing the workforce gap created in the fire service department by the exit of some 50 staff due to retirement and death. (NAN) |
