The Fallon Two Rock Solar Farm has officially commenced operations, announced partners MCE and Renewable America, marking a significant milestone in California’s renewable energy landscape.
MCE, a not-for-profit electricity provider serving over 585,000 customer accounts and 1.5 million residents and businesses in California, revealed that the Fallon installation is its sixteenth feed-in tariff project to become operational in the Bay Area. With a commitment to delivering renewable power ranging from 60% to 100%, MCE currently provides 14 GW of electricity to its customers.
Renewable America, a renewable energy developer specializing in small utility-scale solar storage and community microgrid projects in California, disclosed that it has over 320 MW of solar and 680 MWh of energy storage projects in development across the state.
The Fallon Two Rock Solar Farm, a 1 MW agrivoltaics installation, is anticipated to generate approximately 2.3 GW/h annually. According to Renewable America, the project features 2,240 650W Astronergy bifacial solar modules mounted on OMCO Solar Choice trackers, along with Chint Power inverters. It is projected to power 300 homes and mitigate around 19,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions over its 35-year lifespan.
Ardeshir Arian, President & CEO of Renewable America, emphasized the company’s commitment to local projects like Fallon Two Rock, highlighting their positive impact on communities and the advancement of clean energy goals in California.
Notably, the Fallon project was meticulously designed to occupy only 3.5% of a 4.5-acre parcel, with the majority of the land preserved in its natural state. The installation’s fixed tilt trackers were aligned with the land’s natural slope, eliminating the need for grading. Additionally, the project incorporates sheep grazing for natural vegetation management between rows.
The construction of Fallon Two Rock utilized nearly 4,000 hours of prevailing wage labor, meeting the requirements of the Inflation Reduction Act. RNA Services LLC, a subsidiary of Renewable America, served as the EPC partner during construction and continues to oversee operations and maintenance. Furthermore, RNA has pledged $20,000 to MCE for local workforce development initiatives.
Katie Rice, MCE board director and County of Marin supervisor, emphasized the broader impact of clean energy initiatives, highlighting the additional funding from RNA to support local workforce development and nurture the growth of the clean energy economy.
The operationalization of the Fallon Two Rock Solar Farm underscores the collaborative efforts of MCE, Renewable America, and local stakeholders in advancing California’s renewable energy transition. |
