Work Detail Emerge, a collaborative venture between Masdar and EDF Group, has inked a deal with Dubai Maritime City to establish a 980kWp rooftop solar power facility. This project is set to significantly reduce carbon emissions by approximately 780 tonnes annually. The initiative is part of DP World’s broader strategy to promote renewable energy and battery storage systems across its global operations, aligning with its goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and net zero by 2050. The solar plant will be located on the rooftop of the staff accommodation building at Dubai Maritime City and will feature over 1,700 solar modules. Emerge will manage the entire project as a turnkey solution, covering finance, design, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance for a period of 25 years. This venture highlights Emerge’s commitment to providing comprehensive energy services without any upfront costs to the client. Michel Abi Saab, General Manager of Emerge, emphasized the company’s role in advancing the UAE’s decarbonization objectives through such projects. Similarly, Ahmed Al Hammadi, COO of Dubai Maritime City at DP World, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with innovative firms like Emerge and Masdar to expedite their shift to renewable energy. This project is also a component of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, which aims for renewables to constitute 44% of the country’s energy mix by 2050. The International Renewable Energy Agency projects that rooftop solar PV could account for about 6% of the UAE’s total power generation by 2030, further underscoring the strategic importance of this initiative in the region’s energy landscape.
