The Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM) has greenlit the Annual Promotions Program 2024, earmarking approximately 42 million soles (equivalent to 11.3 million dollars) to fuel electrification initiatives across 14 locations in the Amazon region through the implementation of photovoltaic solar plants.
Dubbed the “Sun for All” Energy Frontier Expansion project, the initiative targets towns in the districts of Manseriche, Pastaza, Urarinas, Yavari, and Fernando Lores within the Loreto region. The primary goal is to provide photovoltaic-based electricity to 1,538 families in its initial phase.
The project entails the deployment of both concentrated and individual systems of photovoltaic panels, coupled with a battery bank to ensure continuous power supply.
This endeavor aims at enhancing essential services such as healthcare, by enabling the preservation of vaccines and medications requiring refrigeration. Additionally, it seeks to improve education services through internet access and facilitate nighttime activities, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for the local population.
To foster universal access to energy, MINEM has allocated an additional 96 million soles (approximately 26 million dollars) under the 2024 Annual Promotions Program. This funding will bolster a comprehensive photovoltaic program, benefiting more households, schools, and healthcare facilities nationwide.
MINEM, serving as the administrator of the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE), will utilize a budget exceeding 1,800 million soles (approximately 486 million dollars) for the 2024 Annual Promotions Plan. These funds will be instrumental in furthering the massification of natural gas and ensuring universal access to energy on a national scale. |
