Work Detail | More reports regarding Microsoft's upcoming new 2-in-1 tablet/laptop hybrid, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, are slowly making their way online. This trend is, of course, seen by most fans as a good indication that the device may be close to finally being launched. As of the moment, the majority of the reports is pegging the release of the new laptop to be in October, putting it in line with the company's release pattern for its Surface Pro line. The increase in rumor reports has also been supplemented by the continued discounts that are being offered for the current-generation Surface Pro model. Just recently, the Surface Pro 4 was being offered with a $280 discount on a 50-hour sale that concluded last month. As for the device's rumored specs, there are apparently a lot of changes coming to the new model, which will mostly be improvements to the shortcomings of its predecessor. The upcoming Surface Pro 5 is rumored to be coming with a much better battery performance, thanks to a bigger unit and the efficiency of the latest-generation Intel Kaby Lake processor. Despite consuming less power, the Kaby Lake processor will reportedly provide a 15 to 20 percent boost over its Skylake counterpart, thanks to a more optimized architecture and the turbo boost and overboost functions. Another big change in the Surface Pro 5 will be a wirelessly rechargeable stylus solution, which will be quite an improvement over the old AAAA battery powered stylus of the Surface Pro 4. There are also rumors suggesting that the Surface Pro 5 might be equipped with either NVIDIA's Pascal graphics processing unit (GPU) or AMD's Polaris-based cards. If the rumors are indeed true, then the combination of the GPU, the Intel processor's prowess, and a large 16-gigabyte (GB) random access memory (RAM) will translate to the Surface Pro 5 being a high-performance device capable of heavy applications and gaming. The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is expected to be launched this October with a price tag of around $899 for the base model. Prices will, of course, be higher for the top-end, well-equipped variants. |
