Indosol Solar Private Limited, a Shirdi Sai Electricals Limited (SSEL) subsidiary, launched its advanced solar PV module production unit in Ramayapatnam, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, on March 31, 2024. This initiative marks a significant step towards India’s aim to enhance its domestic manufacturing capabilities, in alignment with the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes. The facility, inaugurated by Shri Manugunta Mahidhar Reddy, is set to produce 500 MW of solar modules utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as TOPCon and HJT.
The plant represents an initial investment of Rs 1,300 crore over 30 acres, aiming to be the world’s first fully integrated quartz-to-module manufacturing site with a final goal of 30 GW upstream and 20 GW downstream capacities. This extensive project is planned to unfold in phases over five years, demanding a total of 8,348 acres for the complete integration, including necessary infrastructure and green spaces.
Designed to be a hub for advanced manufacturing, economic growth, and job creation, the facility aims to positively impact up to 100,000 individuals and directly employ over 32,000 people in Andhra Pradesh. Phase 1A, expected to conclude by December 2024, will see the creation of 800 jobs across 500MW modules, cells, and ingot-wafer production lines. The full phase 1 completion is scheduled for 2025, with a Rs 15,000 crore investment into a 5GW output.
Indosol Solar’s launch is a stride towards India’s self-reliance in solar module manufacturing, buoyed by the PLI scheme. Under this initiative, Indosol has been awarded the opportunity to produce 10 GW of high-efficiency solar PV modules, reinforcing SSEL’s commitment to the ‘Make-in-India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ campaigns. |
