Work Detail US architect Sasaki has been selected to futureproof the winter home and desert laboratory of celebrated architect and engineer Frank Lloyd Wright. It was chosen by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation to create guidelines for any future work at the Unesco heritage site at Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona. The house was occupied by Wright from 1938 until his death in 1959, and it embodied his principles of organic architecture and integration with the Sonoran Desert. Sasaki’s plan will measure the impact the site has on its surrounding ecosystems and how it will influence plants such as the Saguaro cacti, ocotillo bushes and palo verde trees. The guide will also lay out how public tours can be carried out while preserving the buildings, and they can be sustainably maintained. Stuart Graff, president of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, said: “After Wright’s death, development at Taliesin West was not by design. New technologies, societal changes, and even climate change make having a thoughtful path forward important to the foundation and the surrounding community.”
