According to the manufacturer, this is the Coastal Solar project, promoted by the oil company Coastal Petroleum Dominicana in San Pedro de Macorís, about 80 km east of the countrys capital, Santo Domingo.
Schletter Group, a manufacturer of solar mounting systems of German origin but which has been producing entirely in China since 2019, supplies the mounting systems for a photovoltaic project with a power of 130 MW in the Dominican Republic.
The Coastal Solar project is located a few hundred meters from the coast in San Pedro de Macorís, about 80 km east of the capital, Santo Domingo. In total, 255,540 modules will be installed in months. According to a statement from Schletter, the SEMI company is promoting the project. However, according to the 2022 resolution of the National Energy Commission, the permit is granted to the oil company Coastal Petroleum Dominicana.
Schletter is supplying its FS Duo exterior system for the project, explaining that “the system of two high-strength steel supports is very stable for wind loads of up to 257 km/h. Therefore, it is capable of withstanding the hurricanes and whirlwinds frequent in the region.” Schletter adds that “thanks to quick assembly and large ranges, the system is particularly economical. Due to the high humidity and high chloride content in the atmosphere near the sea, Schletter equipped all steel components with a particularly resistant galvanization with corrosion class C4”.
A special feature of the project was the heterogeneous terrain interspersed with stones. For this reason, the system was planned with concrete foundations instead of conventional pile foundations. Concrete foundations with so-called “micropiles” are not only better suited to transferring tensile and shear forces to the ground, for example under extreme wind loads, but also allow posts to be installed more precisely. Before filling the hole with concrete, the posts are precisely positioned using GPS measurements and support bolts. This allows centimeter-precise alignment along the entire row.
With this project, a total of more than 700 MWp have been installed on Schletter systems in the Caribbean. “Due to the corrosive marine climate and tropical cyclones, the mounting systems there are exposed to especially high loads,” says the company, active since 2011 in the Dominican Republic and has installed several outdoor systems there, including in Monte Plata, Monte Crist or Santanasol. In December 2023, a 97 MWp project was put into operation in Cumayasa with the Schletter Tracking System. |
