Work Detail The New York Power Authority (NYPA) is on the lookout for developers to embark on a renewable energy project at SUNY Niagara Community College, located in Sanborn, Niagara County. Announced today, this initiative seeks proposals for the design and implementation of a solar energy system that could reach up to 6 megawatts (MW) in capacity, with an additional option for battery energy storage. Interested parties are asked to submit their proposals by April 17, as NYPA aims to bolster the college’s renewable energy consumption and contribute to New York State’s environmental sustainability efforts. Justin E. Driscoll, NYPA’s president and CEO, expressed enthusiasm about assisting SUNY Niagara in achieving its sustainability objectives, highlighting the dual benefits of environmental responsibility and financial savings. The project is not only an effort to promote renewable energy growth within the state but also a step towards New York’s broader goal of transitioning to clean energy. The project’s scope includes the design, construction, installation, financing, ownership, operation, and maintenance of solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems at a designated location on the college campus. Proposals will be evaluated based on several criteria, including technical expertise, project management strategy, cost-effectiveness, and potential risks and benefits. SUNY Niagara President William Murabito expressed the college’s alignment with the state’s clean energy ambitions and its anticipation for the solar project. The plan involves installing a ground-mounted solar PV system, with a capacity of up to 6 MW and the possibility of integrating a 3 MW battery storage system. This installation will support New York’s Climate Act goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% and sourcing 70% of the state’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Developers interested in the project are invited to a site walk-through on March 26, where they can gain insights into the project requirements and site conditions. The selected developer will secure a power purchase agreement with the college for up to 25 years, outlining the terms for the system’s operation and maintenance. This project represents a significant step towards integrating clean renewable energy resources into the campus’s infrastructure, underlining NYPA’s and SUNY Niagara’s commitment to sustainability and clean energy.
