Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy dedicated the Pula Subbaiah Veligonda irrigation project to the state, by unveiling a pylon near the tunnel-II at Yeguvacherlopalli village in Prakasam district on 06 March, 2024.
This project caters to irrigation needs of about five lakh acres in the districts, and will help supply potable water to about 15 lakh people fluoride-affected areas. the first tunnel of the project was completed in November 2021, and the second in January 2024.
The CM stated that the goverment has realised dreams of people in drought-prone Prakasam, Nellore and Kadapa districts by completing Pula Subbaiah Veligonda irrigation project. He further stated that he expects to bring water from Srisailam to Nallamala Sagar via the twin tunnels by next kharif. The project draws Krishna flood waters through tunnels and a feeder canal in Prakasam, Nellore, and Kadapa districts.
The resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R) of the project displaced families would be completed before the release of water by next July. |
