Work Detail At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2024, Huawei’s innovative green antenna series clinched the GSMA Global Mobile (GLOMO) Award for ‘Best Mobile Network Infrastructure’, marking a significant achievement in the telecom industry. This award underscores Huawei’s leadership in developing technology that enhances efficiency, performance, and integration of base station antennas, setting new standards for 5G network construction. The acclaimed green antenna series, encompassing the Eco Antenna, Hertz Antenna, BladeAAU antennas, and X2 Antenna, embodies Huawei’s commitment to technological and process innovations aimed at minimizing network energy consumption and deployment costs. By integrating Huawei’s proprietary SDIF and Meta Lens technologies, the antennas boast an efficiency improvement of over 25%, significantly reducing energy losses and boosting network performance. Furthermore, the introduction of FreSIP and folding array technologies has revolutionized the integration of antenna modules, decreasing the necessity for multiple network equipment boxes at tower sites. A notable advancement in manufacturing, Huawei’s laser welding technology, plays a crucial role in reducing the environmental impact by eliminating water consumption and air pollution during the production process. Huawei’s green antennas have been deployed in over 75 countries, emerging as the preferred solution for operators worldwide aiming for green and efficient network construction. These antennas require lower transmit power to achieve the same coverage, enabling operators to conserve base station energy. Live network tests have demonstrated a 26% reduction in base station energy consumption during peak hours, equating to annual savings of approximately 900 USD per site, without sacrificing performance or coverage. The widespread adoption of Huawei’s green antennas has not only facilitated cost savings but also contributed significantly to environmental sustainability. With over 250,000 units deployed globally, the technology has the potential to reduce up to 90,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to the absorption capacity of 65 million square meters of forests. Sun Youwei, President of Huawei Antenna Business Unit, expressed gratitude for the GSMA recognition, emphasizing the critical role of spectrum and energy utilization in delivering optimal network experiences. He highlighted that Huawei’s green antennas not only save energy but also enhance network coverage and user experience. Huawei remains committed to collaborating with industry partners to expand the application of green antennas across more frequency bands and scenarios. MWC Barcelona 2024, held from February 26 to February 29, serves as a platform for Huawei to showcase its latest products and solutions, including the Green Antenna Series. The event also marks a step forward in Huawei’s collaboration with global operators and partners towards the commercial launch of 5.5G, driving innovation in networks, cloud, and intelligence for a new era of intelligent digital transformation.
