In a collaborative effort to advance expertise in the renewable energy sector, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Innovation Centre partnered with the Gulf Renewable Energy Lab to organize a comprehensive training program. This initiative focused on key factors crucial for the successful development and implementation of renewable energy projects, aligning with global best practices in the industry.
The training, an integral part of DEWA’s commitment to professional certification and training courses, aimed to expand the scope of clean and renewable energy projects while accelerating the overall energy transition. Graduates of the program were awarded the prestigious ‘Financial Modelling & Analysis of Renewable Energy Projects’ international certificate.
Open to individuals with a bachelor’s degree or diploma in mechanical/electrical engineering, as well as professionals with finance backgrounds specializing in project financing and evaluation, the training equipped participants with essential skills and confidence. The focus was on enabling them to develop comprehensive financial models for planning, investments, and financial analysis within the renewable energy sector.
Commenting on the initiative, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting the clean and renewable energy sector. He highlighted the importance of strengthening the skills and knowledge of experts and youth, empowering Emiratis to actively contribute to the future of renewable energy. Al Tayer emphasized that these efforts align with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming for 100% clean energy production capacity by 2050.
The Innovation Centre, located at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, serves as an educational platform hosting events, conferences, seminars, and workshops. It operates as a global incubator for innovations in clean energy, fostering knowledge sharing through partnerships with universities, corporations, and startups.
Saeed Abubaker Belhaddad, General Manager of Gulf Renewable Energy Lab, expressed pride in the partnership with DEWA, highlighting the lab’s role in supporting the transition to renewable energy through knowledge localization initiatives. As the largest and most modern center for renewable energy in the Middle East and North Africa, the lab plays a crucial role in developing the energy mix and localizing testing, inspection, and consultancy services. Belhaddad emphasized the importance of promoting efforts that empower GCC youth in the sector, build a knowledge-based economy, and enhance local content. |
