The Chilean Production Promotion Corporation (Corfo) opens the presentation of proposals until mid-April; It has total financing of up to 30 million dollars.
The Chilean Production Promotion Corporation (Corfo) has announced the opening of the initiative “R&D Challenges for Sustainable Productive Development”, with projects linked to the development of the lithium industry, sustainable mining, energy transition and transformation digital.
Through the projects, whose presentation is due until mid-April, the aim is to “promote sustainable productive development in key sectors of the economy and aim to integrate storage and NCRE, intensive capture of sulfur dioxide in mining operations or have first production of metallic lithium by 2027”, as explained in a statement.
The information abounds that the call contemplates “three challenges agreed upon last December by the Lithium and Salt Flats Committee that make up the Mining ministries; Economy, Development and Tourism; Environment; Tax authorities; Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation; and Foreign Affairs, in addition to Corfo:
Development of new technological solutions for the production of metallic lithium in Chile
Advanced reuse of EV (electric vehicle) batteries for stationary storage
Development of new technological solutions to reduce emissions in the processing of copper concentrates
The financing, of up to 30 million dollars, is assured to come from resources from the R&D contributions committed by SQM Salar SA and Albemarle in the contracts for the exploitation of lithium in the Corporations mining properties in the Salar de Atacama .
The evaluation and award of the proposals is expected to be completed in July of this year, with the aim that the projects can be underway in November 2024.
The recipients of the resources must be non-profit entities dedicated to R&D where the State or national universities participate, with possible participation in association with other public or private, national and international entities “that ensure the best capabilities for development.” of the initiatives. |
