In a momentous stride towards fortifying water security and ensuring a steadfast provision of clean drinking water for the populace of Coimbatore, the Honorable Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development of Tamil Nadu, Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin, along with the Honorable Minister for Municipal Administration, Urban & Water Supply, Thiru K N Nehru, inaugurated the 178.3 MLD Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Coimbatore.
This cutting-edge facility, designed, built, and commissioned by VA TECH WABAG LIMITED (WABAG) for its esteemed client, the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD), under the prestigious Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Scheme, signifies a pivotal milestone in addressing the regions water requirements. It underscores the steadfast commitment of the Government of Tamil Nadu, under the leadership of the Honorable Chief Minister, towards ensuring water security for the city.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the esteemed presence of distinguished guests, including Thiru S. Muthusamy, Honorable Minister for Housing and Urban Development; Dr. D Karthikeyan (IAS), Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Water Supplies (MAWS); Thiru. Kranthi Kumar Pati (IAS), District Collector Coimbatore; Thiru V. Dakshinamoorthy (IAS), MD, TWAD Board; Thiru S. Sivarasu (IAS), Director of Municipal Administration in the Government of Tamil Nadu; Thiru. Sivaguru Prabakaran (IAS), Commissioner, Coimbatore Corporation; Thiru. Saravanan (IAS), JMD, TWAD Board, and other dignitaries from various governmental bodies, MAWS, TWAD & WABAG.
The Design, Build & Operate (DBO) projects scope encompassed the design and construction of the WTP, boasting a capacity of 178.30 MLD. It leverages water from the River Bhavani to augment water supply to the newly incorporated areas of Coimbatore Corporation. Employing advanced technologies such as the Inclined Plate Separator and Gravity Sand Media Filter, this plant is poised to deliver unparalleled efficiency. As a lifecycle partner, WABAG will oversee the operation and maintenance of the plants for a decade, ensuring uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water to eight newly included Town Panchayats in Coimbatore District: Kurichi, Kuniamuthur, Thudiyalur, Vellakinaru, Chinnavedampatty, Saravanampatty, Kalapatty, and Vilankurichi.
