Tourists looking for a safari experience in South Africa are in for a clean energy treat as the Mdluli Safari Lodge in the Kruger National Park is adding solar plus storage. ESI Africa is tracking the project implemented by Sosimple Energy,
Sosimple Energy is working with the luxury tented lodge to develop a clean power project comprising a solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS). Once constructed, the system will offer a 114kWp ground-mount solar PV system, complemented by a 456kWh high voltage BESS solution.
Chris Schalkwyk, executive manager of Mdluli Safari Lodge, commented: llWe take our sustainability ethos for development and operating in the iconic Kruger National Park very seriously. Solar PV and battery backup supplied by Sosimple Energy was thus a logical choice for sustainable development in our sensitive conversation area."
He added: "The combined solution will reduce our carbon footprint, reduce diesel and electricity costs, mitigate the impact of loadshedding and ensure an eco-sensitive and sustainable tourism operation." |
