Work Detail Party leader blames ministers for "crashing the economy" The UK Labour party has dropped its flagship plan to spend £28 billion a year on renewable energy projects including an expansion of offshore wind, if elected to power. Labour leader Sir Kier Starmer said the spending pledge, first announced by shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves in 2021, was being dropped from the party’s election manifesto owing to Government tax cuts and spending plans. He accused the Conservatives of “crashing the economy’ and planning to “max out the credit card” ahead of the next election. Starmer added that many of the party’s other green policies would remain in play despite the announcement. This is thought to include the creation of the publicly owned clean generation company Great British Energy.
