Secunderabad Railway Station is poised for a complete transformation akin to an airport once the ongoing upgrade works are finalized, announced Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, G. Kishan Reddy.
The modernization initiative, with an allocated budget of Rs 700 crore, is slated to conclude by the end of 2025, resulting in a revamped station boasting modern architecture and world-class passenger facilities.
During a recent visit to the site, Kishan Reddy, who represents Secunderabad in Parliament, alongside South Central Railway General Manager Arun Kumar Jain and other railway officials, assessed the progress of the development efforts.
Reflecting on Prime Minister Narendra Modis commencement of the significant upgrade project on April 8, 2023, Kishan Reddy noted that approximately 20-25 per cent of the scheduled works have already been accomplished within a short timeframe.
The revamped station is expected to feature 26 lifts, 32 escalators, and 2 travelators, enhancing passenger convenience significantly. Multi-modal connectivity to nearby metro stations and bus terminals is also being integrated to facilitate seamless travel.
Additional amenities, including spacious roof plazas, cafeterias, recreational areas, and retail shops promoting local products, are planned to enhance the overall passenger experience.
Acknowledging the dedication of the South Central Railway team, Kishan Reddy commended their swift progress towards project completion.
Furthermore, Kishan Reddy highlighted the rapid progress of other railway development projects in Telangana, notably the nearing completion of Cherlapalli Railway Terminal.
Under the station redevelopment initiative, upgrades are also underway at Nampally, Kacheguda, Lingampalli, and Begumpet stations in the twin city region.
Arun Kumar Jain, detailing the projects progress and key features, emphasized the stations iconic design, equipped to cater to passenger needs efficiently for the next 40-60 years. The station will feature a spacious double-level Roof Plaza/Concourse, consolidating all passenger amenities and retail spaces, ensuring a seamless travel experience for commuters across all platforms. |
