Work Detail US chipmaker Intel has delayed construction of a $20bn manufacturing facility in Ohio, according to the Wall Street Journal. Work has begun on the development, which Intel says it its biggest ever construction project, as well as the largest single private investment in Ohio’s history. The factory was to have opened in 2025. In December 2022, Bechtel announced it would design and build the 2.5 million sq ft first phase of “Intel Ohio”, including 600,000 sq ft of clean rooms. In January 2024, Reuters reported that the company’s stock fell, following doubts in future demand for the chips used in servers and personal computers.
