| Work Detail | The work on the bridge over Mandlia Nullah on the ring road of the city is yet to be complete. The public works department (PWD) had set a deadline of June 15 for its completion. The work on the project, which is expected to boost communication on the ring road, began in November 2014. There is already a bridge over the Mandlia Nullah on the ring road, which connects the city with national highway-6 at Laxmi Dungri area. However, the existing bridge is narrow and in a dilapidated condition. During heavy rain, it gets submerged disrupting traffic movement on the ring road. Many people prefer to take the ring road to come to Sambalpur because it has less traffic. People of Burla and Hirakud area also prefer to take this road to Sambalpur as it saves time. However, during submergence of the existing bridge, commuters are greatly inconvenienced. The problem is likely to be resolved after the commissioning of the new high level bridge. Narayan Patel, deputy executive engineer of PWD, said: "The construction work of the bridge is almost complete. However, the construction of the approach road leading to the bridge will take time." He added that its will require the acquisition of 1.56 acre of private land. A separate tender had been finalized for the construction of the approach road for the bridge, he said. "But a decision has been taken to construct a temporary approach for the time being and allow the movement of vehicles on the new high level bridge as soon as possible," Patel said. The bridge is estimated to be built for Rs 4.66 crore. While the length of the bridge is 70 metres, the width is 12 metre. The existing narrow bridge over the Mandlia Nullah will be dismantled after the new bridge is commissioned. |
