Work Detail Vortex Energy, a prominent renewable energy company in Poland, has initiated construction on a portfolio of projects comprising 53 MW of onshore wind and 57 MW of PV solar. The total equity commitment for these projects amounts to approximately $123 million. This significant investment aligns with Vitol’s commitment to deploy $1 billion in renewable energy in Poland over the next five years, following its acquisition of Vortex Energy in January 2023. The construction of these projects, scheduled for completion by 2024/2025, marks a pivotal step towards the development of the Polish renewable energy market and the nation’s goal of achieving climate neutrality. Once operational, the completed PV and wind projects will generate approximately 180 GWh of energy annually, meeting the needs of 93,000 households and reducing CO2 emissions by an estimated 126,000 tons per year. The construction will be overseen by an experienced commercial and technical team at Vortex Energy, in collaboration with contract partners Nomad Electric and Nordex. Nomad Electric will handle the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) delivery for the PV solar portfolio, while Nordex will supply turbines for the onshore wind projects. P&Q will provide the balance of plant (BoP) contract for the delivery of the onshore wind projects located in Jastrowie and Okonek, with a total capacity of 53 MW. Vortex Energy has a proven track record in delivering renewable generation capacity in Poland, with over 450 MW of operational wind and solar projects to date. The company also boasts a substantial development pipeline of over 3 GW of wind and solar, as well as 2 GW of battery energy storage. This latest construction milestone underscores Vortex Energy’s ambition to become a leading independent power producer (IPP) in Poland and across Europe. Justine Ryan, Head of Renewables EMEA at Vitol, emphasized the significance of renewable power in Europe’s decarbonization strategy and expressed confidence in Vortex’s ability to contribute to emissions reduction and energy security. Maciej Peplinski, CEO of Vortex Energy, hailed the strategic shift in the company’s business model as a new chapter in its history, positioning Vortex as a key player in Poland’s transition towards a secure and sustainable energy future.
