SMA Magnetics is continuing to grow. Four years after the Polish subsidiary of SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA) expanded and moved to the ultramodern Kraków Airport Logistics Centre, the cornerstone has been laid for a second production building. Starting in 2025, electromagnetic components, such as chokes and transformers, will be manufactured at a site of approximately 10,000 square meters to support SMA’s anticipated growth, among other objectives, in the years to come. The three fully automated production lines and the administrative offices will create up to 300 jobs. Once again, logistics real estate developer and operator GLP Poland is handling planning and leasing for the new facility.
“SMA is currently undergoing a period of growth, and the new SMA Magnetics production facility is going to play a pivotal role in that process,” said SMA CFO Barbara Gregor at the cornerstone ceremony for the site at the Kraków Airport Logistics Centre. “The chokes and transformers made here are vital components for the latest generation of solar and battery storage solutions for residential and commercial applications that we manufacture in Germany,” Gregor continued.
“I’m delighted that SMA Magnetics continues to grow and that, with the new factory, we will shortly be able to offer a further 300 jobs in the Kraków area in addition to the 800 employees that we already have,” said Jacek Maciejewski, Managing Director of SMA Magnetics. “Working with GLP Poland has always been a very good experience, so I have no doubt that our exacting requirements for a state-of-the-art production facility will be fulfilled. The excellent strategic location at the Airport Logistics Centre will make it easy and straightforward to dispatch the components made here to SMA and other customers.”
“We’re excited to step up our collaboration with SMA Magnetics. Expanding production capacities at the same industrial park allows our customers to focus all their activities on one location and offers employees production facilities at the absolute cutting edge of technology. Bremer is the general contractor for the new building, which is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2024,” said Marcin Zuchniewicz, Business Development Manager at GLP. “The Kraków region is a key market for GLP in Poland. The company is also currently managing the development of more than 56,000 square meters of logistics space in Niepolomice for MCG EastBridge, part of the Maszonski Logistic group.”
The new SMA Magnetics building covering approximately 10,000 square meters will be located at the GLP Kraków Airport Logistics Centre, where the SMA subsidiary has already been operating a production facility and offices for about four years. In addition to three fully automated production lines for chokes and transformers, the employees have access to ultramodern offices and other facilities. Once the new production facility is complete, the space used by SMA Magnetics will amount to more than 25,000 square meters in total. The cornerstone ceremony in Kraków was attended by representatives of SMA, SMA Magnetics and GLP as well as Bremer AG, the construction company responsible for building the facility. |
