Under the transformative initiative of PM GatiShakti, the 67.57-kilometer Ayodhya bypass project in Uttar Pradesh has been successfully planned and executed, as announced by the commerce and industry ministry on Friday. This strategic project is expected to streamline freight movements and alleviate congestion in the historic city of Ayodhya.
Encompassing key districts such as Lucknow, Basti, and Gonda, the Ayodhya bypass project is designed to enhance connectivity to vital economic, social, and logistics nodes, including tourist and pilgrimage sites in the region. The ministry emphasized that the initiative aims to improve overall accessibility and foster development across these three districts.
Ayodhya, strategically positioned between the economic hubs of Lucknow and Gorakhpur, serves as a crucial transit point for various commodities, including leather, engineering goods, building materials, iron, and steel. The construction of the bypass route is poised to facilitate seamless freight flows, relieving congestion within the city.
The projects evaluation took place during a meeting of the National Planning Group (NPG), established under the PM GatiShakti initiative. The NPG, functioning on a fortnightly basis, plays a crucial role in assessing infrastructure projects, ensuring multi-modality, synchronization of efforts, and comprehensive development in and around the project location.
The PM GatiShakti initiative was launched with the primary objective of developing integrated infrastructure to reduce logistics costs. All logistics and connectivity infrastructure projects requiring investments exceeding ?500 crore are channeled through the NPG. Approval from the NPG is a prerequisite before obtaining clearance from the Public Investment Board (PIB) or the Department of Expenditure under the Finance Ministry.
The NPG, which focuses on roads, railways, and urban development, continues to play a pivotal role in shaping and approving significant projects that contribute to the overarching goals of PM GatiShakti. |
