In a groundbreaking collaboration, Meralco, the leading power distributor with expertise in sustainable solutions, has teamed up with McDonald’s to drive eco-friendly practices within the fast-food giant’s restaurant operations. The partnership, initiated in January 2021 between One Meralco and Golden Arches Development Corporation (GADC), the company behind McDonald’s, focuses on implementing custom solutions, including solar rooftop installations, solar lamp posts, and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
Kenneth S. Yang, President & CEO of McDonald’s Philippines, stated, “Together with Meralco, we’re planting the seeds for a Greener future for the Good of the planet.”
As part of the sustainability efforts, select McDonald’s branches, including Green and Good flagship stores, now offer coin-operated EV charging stations for e-bikes and e-scooters. Enabled by Meralco’s electric mobility solutions subsidiary, Movem Electric, Inc., this initiative aligns with the government’s push for EV use and the country’s transition to green mobility.
The collaboration saw GADC adopting Meralco’s Peak/Off-Peak (POP) solution to optimize electricity usage, leading to cost savings for McDonald’s 24/7 branches, crucial for their all-day McDelivery services.
In pursuit of sustainable energy, solar panel installations are underway at McDonald’s Petron KM44 and McDonald’s Pagsanjan branches. With the support of Meralco’s subsidiary, MSpectrum, Inc., these branches are expected to achieve annual savings of approximately P450K and P880K, respectively.
Meralco integrated solutions encompassing solar installations, POP, and energy-efficient technologies like inverter appliances and LED lighting to enhance overall operational efficiency, contributing to GADC’s sustainability goals.
Kenneth S. Yang expressed, “Meralco is always top of mind when it comes to energy solutions. Our relationship with the Meralco group has been long-standing, and I look forward to many more years with them as partners as we work towards a greener and brighter future.”
Meralco Enterprise, serving public and private sectors, provides tailor-made solutions leveraging insights into energy consumption behaviors. The partnership exemplifies the synergy between Meralco’s tailored strategies and collaborative efforts, reducing operational costs for McDonald’s and paving the way for further sustainable practices in the energy and food industries. |
