The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has granted 13 new
power generation and distribution licenses in the third quarter of 2023, its most recently released report confirms.
The projects focuses on off-grid and embedded power generation, independent electricity distribution and electricity trading.
The projects collectively are expected to generate 40.9MW.
NERC says the report analyses the state of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
It covers the operational and commercial performance, regulatory functions, consumer affairs as well as the Commissions finances and staff development.
In terms of available generation capacity for Q3 2023, NERC said there were 27 grid-connected power plants consisting of 19 gas, four hydro, two steam and two gas/steam-powered plants.
"The plants average available generation capacity during the quarter was 4,211.44MW representing a -4.02% decrease (-176.47MW) compared to the 4,387.91MW recorded in 2023/Q2," the report notes. |
