Renowned renewable Independent Power Producer (IPP), Mahindra Susten, specializing in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), proudly announces its reception of the prestigious ‘Water Positive Verification’ certificate for the fiscal year 2023. The certification, awarded by TUV India (TÜV NORD GROUP), recognizes Mahindra Susten’s unwavering commitment to planet-positive initiatives and water resource conservation across its entire 100% operating portfolio.
The accolade follows a comprehensive audit conducted in five states – Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh – evaluating Mahindra Susten’s renewable energy projects totaling over 1.5 GWp. TUV India’s assessment on the Water Footprint Index reveals a score of 15 (Positive), signifying that water recharged is 15 times over the amount consumed.
Deepak Thakur, MD & CEO of Mahindra Susten, expresses the company’s dedication to sustainability, aligning with the Mahindra Group’s goal to be Planet Positive by 2040. Recognizing the traditional water intensity of the solar sector, Mahindra Susten takes a significant step toward sustainable operations by achieving a 100% water-positive portfolio.
The “Water Positive Verification” certificate underscores Mahindra Susten’s holistic environmental stewardship and commitment to preserving water resources. The solar sector’s historical water intensity, driven by the constant need for module cleaning, is addressed by Mahindra Susten’s three-step approach: reducing water consumption, eliminating water for module cleaning through advanced technology, and implementing water conservation practices.
In addressing the challenge of undertaking solar projects in water-stressed areas like Rajasthan, Mahindra Susten has actively worked to reduce water consumption while maintaining the efficiency of solar power plants. The adoption of innovative technologies, including dry-cleaning robots for module cleaning, has resulted in significant water savings, contributing to the annual conservation of almost 67 million liters.
Mahindra Susten’s mission to achieve a water-positive future involves sustainable practices such as groundwater recharge systems with artificial recharge ponds and rainwater harvesting recharge pits. The company remains committed to setting benchmarks for responsible corporate practices and contributing to a more sustainable and water-positive future. |
