With a 52.3% share of all electric cars sold in the Brazilian market, the company also anticipates that it will soon begin installing its EV production infrastructure in a new factory in Bahia.
BYD, the Chinese giant focused on the production of electric and hybrid vehicles, has consolidated its leadership in the electrified vehicle market in Brazil in 2023. According to data from ABVE (Brazilian Association of Electric Vehicles), with the accumulated results of last year, The company, which will begin production in a factory in Bahia, reports that 17,947 cars of the brand were sold last year, an increase of 6,900%, or the equivalent of almost 70 times, compared to the 260 units sold in all of 2022 .
Among 100% electric vehicles, known as BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles), the Delfín led the classification, with 5,971 units sold during the year. In the ranking of the 5 best sellers, the BYD Dolphin sold more than the other four models combined (4,756 units). If we look at the 10 best-selling models, BYD models have reached a market share of 72%.
In the top 5, BYD still has three more models: BYD Yuan Plus (1,756), BYD Seal (1,040) and BYD Dolphin Plus (841). Among the top 10 cars in the annual ranking, BYD sold almost three times more than the main brands in 2023.
The Dolphin assumed the monthly sales leadership in September and became Brazils best-selling electric car for the fourth consecutive time in December. The brand achieved a sales record, with 3,617 units in the last month of the year and a market share of 60% (BEV), registering a growth of 72% compared to November sales (2,099 units).
“The BYD Dolphin changed the history of the Brazilian automobile market and soon became a bestseller. That is because it is a complete, efficient model with great autonomy. Brazilians have shown that they care about cars that do not pollute. By 2024, we will have even more innovations that will once again shake up the market,” says BYD do Brasil President Tyler Li.
In 2023, BYD broke another record for electric vehicle sales, with a total of 10,274 units, reaching a share of 52.3% of the total electric cars sold (19,310 vehicles) in the Brazilian market. The result is even more significant considering that BYDs sales of electric models (10,274 vehicles) exceeded those of all other electric models combined (9,036 units). |
