Work Detail The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal to declare Ayodhya Airport as an international airport, and naming it as Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhyadham. Elevating Ayodhya Airport to international status is expected to improve Ayodhyas economic potential and its significance as a global pilgrimage site. It is strategically positioned to become a key economic hub with its potential to attract businesses aligned to the citys historical prominence, which would also open doors to foreign pilgrims and tourists. The airport’s name pays homage to Maharishi Valmiki, the sage known for composing the epic Ramayana, delineating deep cultural roots of the city. In the first phase, the airport can handle 10 lakh passengers annually and after the second phase, Maharishi Valmiki International Airport will cater to 60 lakh commuters annually. Phase-1 of the airport is developed at a cost of more than Rs 1,450 crore. The airports terminal building will have an area of 6,500 sq mtrs., equipped to serve about 10 lakh passengers annually. The facade of the terminal building depicts the temple architecture of the upcoming Shri Ram Mandir of Ayodhya. The terminal building of Ayodhya airport is also equipped with various sustainability features, such as insulated roofing system, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, water treatment plant, solar power plant and many other such features which have been provided to meet GRIHA-five-star ratings.
