Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) commenced oil production from its flagship deep-water project in the Krishna Godavari basin offshore the nations eastern coast. Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the production commencement and mentioned that it is a remarkable step in India’s energy journey and boosts the mission for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and will have several benefits for the economy as well.
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said that it was the First Oil production from the complex and difficult deepwater Krishna Godavari basin (KG-DWN-98/2 Block, situated off the coast of Bay of Bengal).
ONGC had successfully executed Phase-I of the project in March 2020, achieving the commencement of gas production from the U field of the KG-DWN-98/2 Block in 10 months. With the commencement of this first oil, ONGC is nearing the completion of Phase-II, with oil production commencing from the M field of KGDWN-98/2.
This project is likely to increase ONGCs total oil and gas production by 11 percent and 15 percent, respectively. The development of this field technical challenges, and to overcome these, the oil exploration company employed innovative pipe in pipe technology, a first-of-its kind initiative in India. Majority of the fabrication works were carried out at modular fabrication facility at Kattupalli. |
