The company has released an application programming interface so third-party developers can interact with Teslas home energy products.
Tesla has announced that it has released an application programming interface (API) for its solar, Powerwall battery energy storage, and electric vehicle chargers.
An API is a software intermediary that allows applications to communicate with each other. The new API will allow third parties to interact with the software that controls the homes energy components.
The electric vehicle and home solar provider launched an API for electric vehicle fleet management in October. Their API now supports distributed energy asset coordination.
Tesla has been increasingly implementing software plans to coordinate distributed energy assets in programs such as virtual power plants (VPPs). In a VPP program, customers enroll their solar and storage assets in a program that leverages their stored or produced electricity at times of peak demand. Customers receive financial compensation for these electricity exports.
Developers can find the API here .
Powerwall 3
Teslas Powerwall will be a key component in the implementation of VPP programs and fleet management. The company announced its third generation of Powerwall in September 2023.
The new battery has an energy capacity of 13.5 kW and offers a continuous grid power of 11.5 kW. The system measures 110 cm x 61 cm x 19.3 cm and weighs 130 kg.
The battery includes an inverter with six solar inputs with maximum power point trackers (MPPT). The device reportedly has a solar-to-grid efficiency of 97.5%. The new product has a 10-year warranty.
“PW3 has been optimized for ease of installation and increased power, meaning a single Powerwall can serve as an uninterruptible power supply for most homes. This is very important to ensure that the lights stay on and that you can power all your devices in the event of a power outage,” said CEO Elon Musk. |
