Work Detail Centrex Metals Ltd has appointed Canadian based potash engineering company Novopro for a prefeasibility study of its Oxley Potassium Project in the midwest of Western Australia.

The work will include analysis and optimisation of a planned hydrometallurgical circuit, developed as part of a positive scoping study completed last month.

The prefeasibility study will consider not only a start-up potassium nitrate (NOP) specialty fertiliser operation, but also cover second stage expansion into the bulk potassium fertiliser market.

The start-up NOP operation in the scoping study was based on only a fraction of the current inferred mineral resources that includes 38 million tonnes at 10% potassium oxide (9% cut-off).

The inferred mineral resources to date covers only 3 kilometres of the overall 32 kilometres strike of rare ultrapotassic lava flow that forms the basis of the project.

The preliminary engineering studies by Novopro will include the review of numerous design options considered and costed in the scoping study.

Novopro will review the hydrometallurgical section of the project, which includes leaching and purification of potassium chloride from the molten salt roast circuit that extracts potassium from feldspar.

Based on these studies, a go-forward option will be chosen that will be underpinned by a small-scale pilot testwork program during the prefeasibility study.

The prefeasibility study is targeted for completion by the end of 2017.

Centrex had $27.1 million in cash reserves as at 30 June 2016 with no debt.
