LSE awards contract for 2,000 new student homes
London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) has officially chosen the Bouygues UK-Equitix consortium as its preferred partner for constructing 2,000 new student homes in the prime location of Bankside.
Bouygues UK’s development arm, Linkcity, in collaboration with Equitix, will oversee the investment and development plans for this project. These new student accommodations will be situated in the iconic Bankside area of London, adjacent to the Tate Modern art gallery, offering up to 2,000 fresh student lodgings.
Oliver Campbell, Development Director at Linkcity, emphasised that they share LSE’s values and intend to prioritise sustainability and diversity in crafting a vibrant and inclusive living and learning space for students worldwide.
Hugh Crossley, Chief Executive for Equitix, also expressed their commitment to promoting foreign direct investment in the UK through their partnership with Bouygues UK. Their objectives encompass sustainability, student well-being, and appreciation of LSE’s history, and its central London location, with a vision to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
The new student home construction dates
Construction is planned to commence in 2026. The completion is anticipated by 2030, which aligns with the start of the academic year. LSE will collaborate with Bouygues UK-Equitix to select a design team and develop proposals for a planning application in early 2025.
The Bouygues UK-Equitix consortium already boasts multiple accolades for its student accommodation projects spanning several years. As the UK’s first verified carbon-neutral university, sustainability is a top priority for LSE, as reflected in this development.
Julian Robinson, LSE Director of Estates, expressed excitement about partnering with Bouygues UK and Equitix for this project, emphasising the significance of the new building as part of LSE’s brand and identity. They seek an exemplary civic architecture that is affordable for all LSE students. Ian Spencer, Director of Residential and Catering Services at LSE, echoed his enthusiasm for working with Bouygues UK and Equitix, aiming to create a top-tier building with affordable rent options. The new hall will feature dining facilities to foster a sense of community among students. Collaborating with the LSE Students Union, they intend to develop a residential life program that fosters a strong community and connections with the local Bankside community. |
