DB Germany has started the process of selling its logistics division DB Schenker, and will in future focus on its core rail business.
Deutsche Bahn AG has launched the sale process of its logistics subsidiary DB Schenker. The DB Group today issued an official announcement establishing an open and non-discriminatory process for the sale of shares, a statement from the German company said. The condition for a sale is that it must present clear economic advantages for Deutsche Bahn in all respects.
The international logistics market offers excellent long-term growth prospects. As one of the top four logistics companies in the world, DB Schenker has a strong position in this market. Over the years, DB Schenker has made a very positive contribution to the growth of the DB Group. However, the DB subsidiary will need more capital and flexibility for its own growth.
The DB Group will retain all proceeds from a sale, a large part of which will be used for debt reduction. A sale would significantly accelerate Deutsche Bahn’s focus on its core business and the implementation of the Strong Rail strategy. Deutsche Bahn has already completed or contractually agreed the sale of several business units in foreign markets and would take another important step by divesting DB Schenker.
Our goal is to serve the climate, people and the economy by substantially increasing freight and passenger volumes handled by environmentally friendly rail services, company representatives say.
In December 2022, the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn AG entrusted DB’s Board of Management with the task of examining the case and preparing for a potential sale of all its shares in DB Schenker. The final decision on the sale of DB Schenker will be based on a separate resolution adopted by the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn AG at the end of the sale process. The process is also subject to general capital market developments.
Compared to its competitors, DB Schenker has a strong position in all relevant industry sectors – land, air and sea freight forwarding – and in comprehensive and specialised logistics solutions. With around 76,600 employees in more than 1,850 locations in over 130 countries, the company is one of the world’s leading logistics service providers. |
